Not to be confused with "War Chief", "Warlord", or "Main Lieutenant", a 'Warchief' is the title that is given to the temporary leader of a small group of a gang (commonly known as a 'Warparty'). However, if the Warlord is leading a Warparty, he will automatically become the Warchief of it.
In The Warriors game, player 1 is the Warchief (or the Warlord, if he's present) in every mission, with only a few exceptions:
- In The Best, where player 1 is Swan, even during Checkpoint C, when Cleon and Vermin (both higher ranks than Swan and Cowboy) have re-joined the Warparty.
- However, while the four Warriors are walking to the clubhouse (then belonging to The Destroyers), Cleon could've told Swan that he wanted to see how well he could potentially lead a gang, thus placing him as Warchief for the upcoming fight.
- In New Blood, where you play as Rembrandt, who is only just joining the gang, making every member ranked higher than him. If a player 2 joins and becomes Ash, he will be the exact same rank as Rembrandt.
- The closest thing to a Warchief in this mission would be Cleon, during Checkpoint A, or Vermin, during Checkpoints B&C.
- In Writer's Block, where Cleon clearly appoints Snow as Warchief in the first cutscene. Despite this, you still play as Rembrandt for Checkpoints A&B, only switching to Snow for Checkpoints C-E.
- However, on the train there, Snow could've possibly told Rembrandt that he could be Warchief until something bad went down (which it did), in which case, Snow would revert to being Warchief.
NOTE:
- You play as Ajax for a segment in Home Run, where he and Cowboy are separated from Swan and Snow (Warlord and Main Lieutenant, respectively), making Ajax the Warchief of Cowboy, as he is stronger - and, therefore, ranked higher - than Cowboy.
- You also play as Rembrandt for the first half of Friendly Faces, as he is the only Warrior with a level head at that point in the film (as Vermin and Cochise are mingling with The Lizzies), which makes sense to put Rembrandt as the somewhat 'Warchief' of that segment in the game.
